- 1 firm, red, ripe, unblemished tomato
- 1 clove garlic, cut into thin lengthwise slivers
- Salt to taste, if desired
- Freshly ground pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Directions

1Preheat the broiler.

2Cut the tomato in half crosswise.

3Arrange the halves, cut side up, on a baking dish.

4Stuff each tomato half with an equal amount of the slivered garlic.

5Sprinkle with salt and pepper and pour one tablespoon of the olive oil over each half.

6Place the tomatoes under the broiler about four inches from the source of heat and cook about five minutes, or until the cut surfaces are blistered and piping hot.

7Remove and discard the garlic.

8Serve immediately.
