Ingredients

  • 1 to 2 lb. gumdrops, cut up
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 lb. raisins
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 c. applesauce
  • 1 c. butter
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 Tbsp. hot water

Directions

    Dissolve soda in hot water and set aside.

    Sift together all other dry ingredients using part of flour to coat gumdrops, nuts and raisins.
  3. 3
    Cream sugar and butter and add well beaten eggs. Stir in soda and applesauce, then add gumdrops, raisins and nuts. Bake 2 hours in 325° oven.

    A tube pan is best for this.
