Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. light brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. granulated sugar
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. cut-up gumdrops

Directions

    Cream shortening until soft.

    Gradually beat in the sugars. Beat in egg and blend thoroughly.

    Sift together salt, baking soda and flour (reserving a little flour to sprinkle over the gumdrops) and stir into the first mixture with vanilla.

    Add nuts and gumdrop pieces.

    Drop from teaspoon onto greased baking sheet and bake at 400° for 8 to 10 minutes or until slightly browned.
