  • 12 slices rye bread
  • 1 tablespoon hot mustard
  • 12 orange slices, paper-thin and unpeeled
  • 12 slices pickled beets
  • 6 slices hard salami
  • 6 slices brick cheese
  • 12 thin slices onions
  • 6 slices Canadian cheddar cheese
  • 12 flat anchovies, halved or 12 bacon, slices halved
  • butter or margarine, softened
  • parmesan cheese
  • pickled pepper

Directions

    Toast 6 slices rye bread, spread each slice with hot mustard.

    On each slice of toast, arrange 2 slices orange, 1 slice salami, 2 slices beets, 1 slice brick chhese, 2 slices onion and 1 slice Cheddar cheese.

    Arrange 2 anchovies diagonally on top of cheese.

    Butter remaining bread slices and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese. Arrange all bread slices on baking sheet; open-faced, and broil until cheese melts slightly; remove and slice in half diagonally.

    Arrange on serving plates, placing Parmesan slices on each side of anchovy slice.

    Garnish with gherkins.
