Ingredients

  • 4 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat self-rising flour
  • 7 tbsp cold butter, chopped
  • 1 can (16 oz) crushed pineapple in juice, drained
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped ham
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 1 cup grated Cheddar cheese
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 None egg
  • 1/2 cup jarred tomato pasta sauce

Directions

  1. 1
Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. 2
Sift flours into a large bowl. Using fingertips, rub in butter until mixture is crumbly. Stir in pineapple, ham, parsley and half the Cheddar cheese. Make a well in the center. Stir in combined buttermilk and egg; mix to a soft, sticky dough.
  3. 3
Turn onto floured surface; knead lightly until smooth. Press into a 10-inch round; place on prepared pan.
  4. 4
Using a 4-inch round cookie cutter, cut a circle into the center of the dough, without cutting all the way through (about 3/4-inch deep). Cut dough on the outside of the circle into wedges, without cutting all the way through, to the same depth.
  5. 5
Spoon pasta sauce into cuts; sprinkle with remaining Cheddar cheese.
  6. 6
Bake for 45 mins, or until loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
