  • 1/4 c. warm water
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 4 c. self-rising flour
  • 1/2 c. plus 1 tsp. shortening
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/3 c. sugar

    Mix yeast and warm water; let stand 1 minute.
