  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 c. blackberry jam
  • 3 c. sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. chopped nuts
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. coconut
  • 1 c. chopped dates
  • 1 large apple, grated

    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and mix well.

    Add jam and buttermilk alternating with flour and soda.

    Add fruit and nuts last.

    Bake in three greased and floured 9-inch pans for 30 to 40 minutes at 350°.
