- 2 c. mixed dried beans
- 2 ham hocks or ham bones
- 1 (2 1/2 lb.) can tomatoes
- juice of 1 lemon
- 2 qt. water
- 1 onion
- 1 tsp. chili powder
- pepper to taste
Directions

1Wash beans.

2Place in large kettle.

3Cover with water 2 inches above bean line.

4Add 2 teaspoons salt; soak overnight.

5Drain. Add 2 quarts water, ham hocks; bring to a boil.

6Add onion, tomatoes, chili powder and juice.

7Pepper to taste.

8Simmer 3 hours.

9Remove ham from hock before serving.

10Serves 6 to 8.
