- 1 pkg. dry yeast (Red Star)
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 2 c. whole milk, scalded
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. shortening
- 6 1/2 to 6 3/4 c. flour
Directions

1Soften yeast in warm water.

2Combine milk, sugar, salt and shortening.

3Add 2 cups flour; stir well.

4Now add softened yeast. Add rest of flour until stiff.

5Knead 8 minutes; let rise until double in large greased bowl, about 1 1/2 hours.

6Keep top of bread greased, then punch down; let rise again until double, about 45 minutes.

7Divide into 2 equal parts; shape into loaves.

8Let rise again until doubled.

9Bake in a 350° oven until done, approximately 30 minutes.
