Ingredients
- 4 c. lukewarm water
- 4 pkg. active dry yeast
- 4 Tbsp. sugar
- 4 Tbsp. shortening
- 4 tsp. salt
- 3 1/2 qt. flour
Directions

1Mix all ingredients except flour and let stand until dissolved.

2Add about 1/2 the flour.

3Beat 5 minutes.

4Gradually add remaining flour to make a soft dough.

5Knead until smooth and no longer stretchy (about 10 minutes), adding a small amount of flour as needed.

6Place in greased bowl.

7Turn over to grease top. Cover with towel and let rise in warm place until double in size. Punch down; let rise again.

8Make into 5 or 6 loaves.

9Let rise. Bake at 400° for 45 minutes.

10This recipe will serve 40 people.
