  • 2 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. plus 1 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2/3 c. milk
  • 1 egg

Directions

    Sift together the first 5 ingredients.

    Cut in the shortening. Add the milk and egg; mix until it flows around bowl.

    Knead 5 to 6 times.

    Roll 1/2-inch thick.

    Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450° for 10 to 12 minutes, or until golden brown.
