- 1 c. molasses
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 2/3 c. boiling water
- 2 eggs, well beaten
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
- 1/2 c. raisins
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. cloves or allspice

5mixing bowl. Dissolve baking soda in boiling water and pour into bowl.

9Add to mixture in bowl, mix well until smooth.

10Pour into 8 x 8 x 2-inch cake pan.

11Bake in 350° oven for about 50 to 60 minutes.
