Ice Cream Balls

3 ingredients
8 steps

Ingredients

  • 1/2 gallons Vanilla Ice Cream (or Your Favorite Flavor)
  • 2 cups Chocolate To Melt, Either Chocolate Chips Or Chocolate Melting Disks
  • 4 cups Set Up Of Various Decorations Such As Sprinkles, M&Ms, Candy, Chocolate Chips, Etc

Directions

  1. 1
If you want to make these with your kids, all you need is ice cream, chocolate and some fun decorations.
  2. 2
Use an ice cream scooper to scoop out balls of ice cream (shape further into balls by wrapping in plastic wrap and forming into balls with your hands). Place balls on a baking sheet or large freezer safe plate lined with parchment or waxed paper, store in your freezer for at least one hour or until ready to use.
  3. 3
When ready to dip the balls, melt some chocolate (either in the microwave or with a double boiler). You can use chocolate chips or melting disks from the craft store. Once the chocolate is melted, dip away; the chocolate will begin to firm up due to the cold ice cream, so we did it in batches of 3. We pulled a third of the ice cream balls out, coated them in the chocolate then decorated. Then the next third and so forth.
  4. 4
Once the ice cream balls are coated in chocolate, have the kids quickly decorate as soon as they are dipped, because the chocolate will harden quickly.
  5. 5
Yes it's a bit messy and no they will not look perfect, but guess what-it's fun, fun, fun! And the kids will LOVE it. We did some plain; just the fact that the ice cream was shaped like a ball was fun to them. Some we rolled in sprinkles alone and some were dipped in chocolate and decorated.
  6. 6
You could make small ones as well with a melon scooper.
  7. 7
Have fun and get messy. After all, when a kid ends up messy, that usually means they had FUN!
  8. 8
    Enjoy!
