- 1 c. salt
- 2 qt. boiling water
- 1 gal. sliced cucumbers
- 1 Tbsp. alum
- 1 1/4 qt. dark vinegar
- 4 pt. sugar
- small handful pickling spice
Directions

1Add salt to boiling water and pour over cucumbers.

2Let stand 4 days. Drain and wash cucumber slices, then pour 2 quarts boiling water over cucumbers.

3Let stand 24 hours.

4Drain. Add alum to 2 quarts boiling water and pour over cucumbers.

5Let stand 24 hours. Drain. Boil together the vinegar, sugar and spice.

6Pour over pickles. Repeat for 4 days.

7Pack pickles in sterilized jars and pour hot syrup on and seal.
