  • 8 qt. cucumbers (4 to 6-inches long)
  • 2 Tbsp. alum
  • 16 c. white sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 4 Tbsp. mixed pickling spices, tied in a bag
  • 2 qt. white vinegar
  • 2 tsp. green food coloring (maybe a little more)

    Put cukes in 3-gallon crock (whole).

    Pour 1 gallon of boiling water over them.

    Let stand 24 hours.

    Repeat this the 2nd, 3rd and 4th days.
