- 2 gal. cucumbers (cut before measuring)
- 1 gal. boiling water
- 1 pt. salt
- 2 Tbsp. alum
- 1 gal. boiling water
- 8 pt. sugar
- 2 qt. vinegar
- 1 box pickling spices
Directions

1Pour 1 gallon of boiling water over cucumbers.

2Add salt.

3Let pickles stand for 1 week; stir every day.

4Drain and add 1 gallon boiling water and alum.

5Let stand 24 hours.

6Drain and make a syrup of sugar, vinegar and pickling spices (put spices in a white cloth and tie it).

7Heat syrup and pour over cucumbers for three mornings.

8On the fourth morning, heat syrup and can cucumbers. Seal at once.
