  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/3 cups unsifted flour, measured by being spooned into cup
  • 3/4 cup pecans (or walnuts) broken into small pieces
