- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 c. whole wheat flour
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 stick unsalted butter, cut in bits
- 1 c. raisins
- 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Mix flour, baking soda, sugar and salt; with fingers, rub in butter.

2Add raisins, then buttermilk until moistened.

3On floured board, knead dough for 1 minute.

4Add little more flour to dough if sticky.

5Shape dough into ball and put in buttered dish.

6With sharp knife, cut an X on top of loaf and brush with milk.

7Bake at 350° for 55 to 60 minutes.

8Turn out on rack and cool completely before slicing.
