  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 c. jam (blackberry best)
  • 2 c. cake flour (plain)
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cloves
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 4 egg whites

    Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy.

    Add beaten egg yolks.

    Mix soda, jam and buttermilk; add sifted flour and spices alternately with buttermilk and soda; add raisins and nuts.
