- 2 cups sugar
- 2/3 cup lard
- 2 eggs
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cloves
- 1 1/2 teaspoons allspice
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- Pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 teaspoons soda
- 3/4 cup jam
- 3/4 cup black walnuts
Directions

1Heat oven to 350 degrees.

2Cream sugar and lard.

3Add eggs.

4Beat well.

5Sift flour with cloves, allspice, salt, soda, cinnamon and cocoa. Add to sugar mixture alternately with buttermilk.

6Add jam and nuts.

7Makes three layers. Bake 25 minutes or until toothpick test shows it's done.
