- 3 large egg whites
- 3 each egg yolks
- 1/4 cup coffee strong cold
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 3 1/4 cups flour, all-purpose
- 3/4 cup liqueur coffee flavor, such as kahlua
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
- 1 cup brown sugar light
- 5 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder unsweetened
- 3 tablespoons coffee hot
- 3 tablespoons liqueur coffee flavor, such as kahlua
Directions

1Grease and flour two 9 inch cake pans, set aside.

2Preheat oven to 350F (180C).

3Beat egg whites untill soft peaks form.

4Gradually add sugar, beat until soft peaks form, set aside.

5Cream shortening and brown sugar until fluffy.

6One at a time add egg yolks, beating well after each.

7Sift flour, cocoa and baking soda together.

8Add to creamed mixture alternately with coffee and Kahlua, beating well with each addition.

9Fold egg whites into batter.

10Pour into pans.

11Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until done.

12Cool 10 minutes.

13Turn on wire racks.

14Cool completly.

15Frost.

16Kahlua Frosting In a bowl, cream the butter.

17Add powdered sugar and cocoa, beat while adding Kahlua.

18Continue beating and add hot coffee to a thick and smooth consistency.
