  • 1 1/2 lb. hamburger
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1/4 c. water
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • pinch of onion salt
  • pinch of garlic salt
  • pinch of turmeric
  • pinch of curry powder
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 3 c. rice
  • 4 whole cloves
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 1 can peas and juice

Directions

    Saute onions in large kettle.

    Fry hamburger in saucepan. When hamburger is half browned, add 1/4 cup water, 1/2 cup catsup, onion salt, garlic salt, turmeric, curry powder and salt.

    After onions are browned, add 3 cups rice. Add whole cloves to hamburger mixture; add bay leaves to rice.

    Add peas and juice to hamburger mixture.

    Add 1 quart of more water to rice mixture; boil.

    Add more water if it becomes too thick.

    Simmer hamburger mixture with lid.

    When rice is 3/4 done, put in heated oven at 450° for not more than 1 hour.

    Serve the hamburger mixture over the rice mixture.

    Be sure to remove the bay leaves.
