  • 14 oz. (48) caramels
  • 2/3 c. evaporated milk
  • 1 pkg. German chocolate cake mix
  • 3/4 c. soft margarine or butter
  • 1 c. nuts
  • 1 c. chocolate chips

    Melt caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk over low heat.

    Stir often until melted.

    Grease and flour 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Combine cake mix, margarine, 1/3 cup evaporated milk and nuts.

    Pat 1/2 of mixture into bottom of pan and bake at 350° for 6 minutes. Sprinkle chocolate chips over cooked dough.

    Pour caramel mixture over chocolate chips.

    Cover with remaining dough.

    Bake at 350° for 15 to 18 minutes.

    Cool before cutting.
