Ingredients

  • sliced cucumbers
  • 7 cloves garlic
  • 14 sprigs dill
  • 7 tsp. alum
  • 1 qt. vinegar
  • 3 qt. water
  • 1 c. pickling salt

Directions

    Fill fruit jars with cucumbers, either whole or sliced.

    Put 1 clove of garlic and a sprig of dill in bottom of each jar and a sprig of dill on top, also 1 teaspoon alum.

    In a kettle, bring vinegar, water and pickling salt to a boil.

    Pour over pickles and seal.

    Process five minutes in boiling water.
  6. 6
    Let stand for 6 weeks before using.
  7. 7
    Makes 7 quarts of pickles.
