Ingredients

  • 1 peck dill size cucumbers
  • 3 pt. vinegar
  • 1 1/2 c. canning salt
  • 4 1/2 qt. water
  • fresh dill
  • grape leaves
  • garlic
  • hot pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp. alum

Directions

    Wash cucumbers.

    Place grape leaf, dill, garlic and pepper in bottom of jar.

    Pack cucumbers in hot, clean jars.

    Mix vinegar, water, salt and alum in large pan; bring to boil.

    Pour over top of cucumbers.

    Place grape leaf, dill, garlic and pepper on top of cucumbers.

    Seal jars.

    Place in hot water bath for about 20 minutes in boiling water to seal jars.

    Makes 8 to 9 quarts.
