  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 3 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 c. water
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. basil
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 8 oz. cooked lasagna noodles
  • 1 lb. cottage cheese
  • 8 oz. Mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 c. Parmesan cheese

Directions

    Saute onion, garlic and beef until brown.

    Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, water, salt, basil, sugar, pepper and bay leaf and simmer uncovered about 1 1/2 hours.

    Remove bay leaf.

    Spread 1/2 cup meat sauce in 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan, starting with noodles. Make 3 layers, each of noodles, cottage cheese, Mozzarella cheese, meat sauce and Parmesan.

    Bake at 325° for 45 minutes.
