Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 2/3 lbs ground beef
  • 2 cans (15 oz each) diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 9 oz no boil lasagna sheets
  • 2 cups bechamel sauce
  • 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • None None Green salad, to serve

Directions

    Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.

    Heat oil in a heavy-bottomed saucepan on medium heat. Saute onion and garlic for 2-3 mins, until tender. Stir in tomato paste. Increase heat to high. Add ground beef and brown well for 4-5 mins.

    Stir in diced tomatoes, wine and sugar. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, uncovered, for 25-30 mins, until thickened. Season to taste.

    Arrange a layer of lasagna on bottom of dish, breaking to fit as needed. Cover with a 1/3 each of the meat sauce then bechamel sauce. Repeat layers twice, finishing with bechamel. Top with sliced tomatoes and cheese.

    Bake, uncovered, for 45-50 mins, until golden and bubbling. Let stand 10 mins before serving. Serve with green salad.
