Ingredients
- cucumbers
- 4 Tbsp. pickling spices (mixed)
- 4 Tbsp. canning salt
- 4 Tbsp. alum
- vinegar
- sugar
Directions

1Wash and slice enough cucumbers to fill a gallon glass jar. Add spices (in tied cloth), salt and alum, then cover with cold vinegar.

2Let set in dark place for 6 weeks.

3Date top of lid when to take out.

4At that time, drain off vinegar (do not wash). Layer back into jar with 8 to 10 cups of sugar.

5Cloth with 5 spices may be added back to jar.

6Let stand until sugar is dissolved.

7Leave on pantry shelf.

8Take out as many as needed and chill in refrigerator, then serve.

9The rest can stay on shelf until used up.

10Very crisp.
