Ingredients

  • 1 c. finely chopped suet
  • 2 beaten eggs
  • 1/2 c. dark corn syrup
  • 1 1/4 c. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. allspice
  • 1/4 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1/2 c. each: currants, raisins, chopped dates and chopped walnuts

    Mix suet, eggs and corn syrup.

    Sift dry ingredients and add in turn with water; stir in remaining ingredients.

    Fill well-greased 1 1/2-quart mold 2/3 full.

    Cover tightly; steam 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

    Serve with hot Lemon-Nutmeg Sauce (recipe follows).
