- 2 c. beans
- 8 c. water
- 1/2 lb. bacon, cut into pieces
- 1/3 c. packed brown sugar
- 1/4 c. chili sauce
- 1 Tbsp. chopped onion
- 1 Tbsp. prepared mustard
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/8 tsp. pepper
Directions

1Wash beans.

2Cover with 4 cups water and let stand 2 hours. Drain.

3Combine beans and 4 cups water in large pan and simmer, covered, about 1 hour.

4Fry bacon with onion.

5In bean pot or ovenproof dish, combine beans with liquid and rest of ingredients including bacon grease.

6Cook and bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours at 350° until beans are tender.

7Stir occasionally, adding water if necessary.

8Remove cover last 30 minutes to brown; do not stir. Serves 6 to 8 people.
