Ingredients
- 1 peck cucumbers, washed and sliced 1/8 to 1/4-inch thick
- 1 c. slack lime
- 2 qt. vinegar
- 9 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. celery seed
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1/2 pkg. cinnamon sticks
- 2 tsp. mace
- 2 tsp. turmeric
- 2 tsp. whole cloves
Directions

1Add slack lime to cucumbers and cover with cold water.

2Let stand 24 hours.

3Drain and rinse well in two or three cold water baths and then soak for 3 hours in clear cold water.

4Drain well. Mix vinegar, sugar, celery seed, salt, cinnamon sticks, mace, turmeric and cloves.

5Pour over pickles cold and let stand 24 hours.

6Then cook pickles and vinegar mixture for 20 minutes (cook slowly).

7Let simmer while filling jars.

8Seal while hot.
