Lye Soap

Directions

   You will need a large iron kettle or granite one and wooden spoon.

   Slowly add lye to cold water, stirring until dissolved. (Don't splash on your hands.)

   Add lard and stir until mixture becomes creamy and thickens.

   Add Borax and household ammonia. Continue to stir until thick and smooth.

   Dip into molds or empty into cardboard boxes that have been lined with wax paper.

   When it is cooled, cut into bars.

   Let cure for about 10 days before using.
