- 1/2 c. shortening
- 2 1/4 c. sifted cake flour
- 1 1/3 c. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. maraschino cherry juice
- 16 maraschino cherries, cut in eighths
- 1/2 c. milk
- 4 unbeaten egg whites
- 1/2 c. chopped nuts
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Stir shortening just to soften.

3Sift in dry ingredients.

4Add cherry juice, cherries and milk.

5Mix until all flour is dampened.

6Then beat vigorously 2 minutes.

7Add egg whites; beat vigorously 2 minutes longer.

8Fold in nuts.

9Bake in 2 paper lined 8-inch pans in moderate oven (350°) for 30 to 35 minutes.

10Frost with any frosting but best with whipped cream frosting.
