Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. ground pork or veal
  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 2 c. stale bread crumbs
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 Tbsp. chopped celery
  • 2 tsp. chopped parsley
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 c. catsup or tomato sauce
  • 2 tsp. flour
  • 1 c. water

Directions

    Mix meats together.

    Add bread crumbs, then milk.

    Add all other ingredients, except catsup, flour and water.

    Shape into a loaf.

    Put loaf into a greased pan and bake at 350° for 1 1/2 hours.

    Remove from oven.

    Add flour to pan, stirring to mix with fat.

    Add water; mix.

    Pour catsup over top of loaf.

    Return to oven for gravy to thicken.

    Serve with mashed potatoes or rice. Serves 6.
