Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lb. ground beef
  • 1/2 lb. ground pork
  • 4 slices bacon
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1 medium green pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. oregano, crushed
  • pinch of thyme
  • salt to taste
  • 5 slices bread, cubed

Directions

    Chop onion, celery and pepper small.

    Fry bacon in large skillet until crisp; remove to paper towel.

    With about 2 tablespoons of drippings, add chopped vegetables, spices, tomatoes and baking soda.

    Cook for about 5 or 6 minutes breaking up the tomato as you stir it.

    Let cool.

    Put in bowl and add eggs, and Worcestershire sauce.

    Mix.

    Add meat and crumbled bacon.

    Mix well.

    Add bread and make 2 even size loaves.

    Place on rack in pan and bake at 350° for 1 hour or until brown.
