Meatballs (Rouladen)

Ingredients

  • thin sliced chuck or sirloin steak
  • diced bacon
  • sliced dill pickles
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 2 Tbsp. cooking oil
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 Tbsp. flour

Directions

    Beat steak with pounder or mallet.

    Fill steak with diced bacon and pickle slices.

    Salt and pepper.

    Roll each steak and hold together with toothpicks.

    In pan add oil, tomato and onion. Lay meat on top; brown on both sides.

    Fill pan with water until rolls are covered; salt to taste.

    Cook until done, about 1 hour (depending on size of pan) until fork feels it is done.

    Remove meat rolls from pan and add flour; make gravy.

    Return meat rolls to pan and warm.

    Serve with mashed potatoes and red cabbage.
