- 1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 Tbsp. water
- 2 c. cold milk
- 3 egg yolks, slightly beaten
- 4 Tbsp. cornstarch
- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Directions

1Mix sugar, water, and salt in top of double boiler.

2Boil over medium heat to a thick syrup (5 minutes).

3Mix 1/2 cup milk and cornstarch to a thin paste.

4Add 1 3/4 cups milk, combine with hot syrup and cook over hot water until thick and smooth.

5Continue to cook 15 minutes longer, stirring constantly.

6Stir small amount in beaten egg yolks, add to mixture, and cook a few minutes longer. Add butter and vanilla.

7Pour in 9-inch pie shell.

8Top with meringue and brown.
