Mocha Pound Cake

  • 2/3 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sifted flour
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. instant coffee
  • 1 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 (1 oz.) sq. unsweetened chocolate

Directions

    Cream shortening.

    Sift in sifted flour, sugar, instant coffee, salt, cream of tartar and soda.

    Add water and vanilla. Mix until flour is dampened.

    Beat one minute more. Pour into loaf pan lined and floured.

    Bake at 325° for 65 to 70 minutes, even 1 1/2 hours won't hurt.

    Sprinkle with confectionary sugar.

    Cool for 10 minutes, then refrigerate.
