  • 2 c. dates
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 c. boiling water
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 c. walnuts

Directions

    Place dates and baking soda in a large bowl.

    Pour boiling water over.

    Let stand until cool.

    Sift flour with salt and baking powder; set aside.

    Cream the eggs, brown sugar and vanilla.

    Add alternately, with flour, to date mixture.

    Add nuts. Bake at 350° for 1 hour and 15 minutes.

    Makes 2 loaves.
