- 1 c. buttermilk
- 2 c. sugar
- 5 c. flour
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 3 tsp. salt
- 1 c. molasses
- 1 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
Directions

1Cream sugar and shortening; then add egg.

2Sift dry ingredients alternately with liquid to make a soft dough.

3Roll out using plenty of flour on board so they will not stick.

4Cut and bake on a cookie sheet.

5Bake in a 375° oven until brown, depending on thickness.

6I like them a little on the thick side. This is an old favorite in our family and has been used for 100 years or more.
