Mom’S Basic Homemade Marshmallows

  • 4 Tablespoons Unflavored Gelatin
  • 1 cup Cold Water
  • 4 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1-1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons Vanilla Extract

Directions

    Soak gelatin in cold water for 10 minutes. While it is soaking, heat sugar and water to soft ball stage (238°F). Pour the syrup over the gelatin, stirring constantly until it is completely dissolved. Stir in salt and vanilla.

    Beat mixture with a stand mixer for about 20 minutes or until stiff. Pour into a buttered 9x2x13 pan and allow to set. Cut into squares with kitchen shears dipped in hot water, wrap in waxed paper and store in an airtight container.
