Ingredients

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/3 cups White Sugar, Plus 3 Tablespoons, Divided
  • 1-1/2 stick Butter, Chilled, Divided Use
  • 3/4 cups Buttermilk
  • 3 Tablespoons Maple Syrup
  • 1/3 cups Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon Cinnamon

Directions

  1. 1
In a large bowl, mix your flour, baking powder, salt, and 3 tablespoons sugar. Using a pastry cutter, fork, or food processor, cut in 1 stick of butter (8 tablespoons). Add buttermilk, and stir with a fork until just combined. Set aside - this is your biscuit dough.
  2. 2
In a separate bowl, melt remaining 4 tablespoons of butter and 3 tablespoons of maple syrup in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time until butter is melted. Set aside.
  3. 3
In a third bowl, mix remaining 1/3 cup white sugar, 1/3 cup brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Set aside.
  4. 4
Using a spoon, make rough balls from the biscuit dough. Roll the balls through the melted butter, then roll through sugar mixture. Place dough balls into a greased muffin tin (recipe should make 12 standard sized muffins). After repeating this process with all the dough, lightly press down the balls into the muffin tin.
  5. 5
Place a tent of foil over the muffins, and bake at 400 degrees F for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. You may want to remove the tent for the last few minutes of baking. Also optional would be making a powdered sugar glaze to drizzle over the top of your monkey bread muffins.
  6. 6
    Makes 12 monkey muffins.
