- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 egg
- 2 1/2 c. flour
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp. cloves
- 1 c. hot water
- 1/2 c. sugar
- 1 c. baking molasses
- 1 1/2 tsp. soda
- 1 tsp. ginger
- 1/2 tsp. salt
Directions

1Cream the shortening and sugar.

2Add beaten egg and molasses, then the dry ingredients which have been sifted together.

3Add hot water last and beat until smooth.

4The batter is soft, but it makes a fine cake.

5Bake in greased pan for 35 minutes at 350°. Makes 15 generous servings.
