Ingredients

  • 2 c. plain cornmeal
  • 1 c. self-rising flour
  • 1 level tsp. baking soda
  • 1/3 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 c. sugar (heaping)
  • 2 eggs
  • buttermilk
  • 1/4 c. cooking oil or bacon grease

Directions

    Combine dry ingredients.

    Add buttermilk until a little more than pasty.

    Put in eggs and oil; mix well.

    Pour into a medium size iron skillet that has been oiled and placed in oven to heat. Bake at 425°.

    Check at 20 minutes.
