Ingredients

  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1/4 c. lukewarm water
  • 1/4 c. lard
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 c. boiling water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted

Directions

    Dissolve yeast cake in warm water.

    In a separate bowl place lard, salt and sugar.

    Pour boiling water over and stir until dissolved.

    When lukewarm, add yeast with wire whisk.

    Beat in egg. Stir in sifted flour to make a soft dough.

    Place dough in a large bowl and cover with plate and put in refrigerator.

    Chill from 2 to 12 hours.

    Pinch off small pieces of dough with buttered hands. Place in greased muffin pans (preferably).

    Fill 1/3 full and raise 2 hours.

    Bake at 425° for 20 minutes.
