- 7 lb. whole cucumbers
- salt (2 c. to 1 gal. water)
- alum (2 to 3 Tbsp. to 1 gal. water)
- vinegar (5%)
- 5 lb. sugar
- mixed pickling spice
- cloves (ground)
Directions

1Soak whole cucumbers in salt water 1 week.

2Wash cucumbers and slice thin.

3Soak in alum for 24 hours.

4Rinse well.

5Cover with vinegar and let stand 24 hours.

6Pour off vinegar.

7Layer cucumbers with sugar and spices (mixed pickling spice and cloves). More than 5 pounds of sugar may be used.

8These pickles do not have to be sealed.
