Ingredients: 1 c. chopped dates; 1 c. hot water; 1 tsp. soda; 1 stick oleo; 1 c. sugar; 1 tsp. cocoa; 1 1/4 c. sifted flour; pinch of salt; 1 tsp. vanilla; 1 c. chopped nuts; 1 c. chocolate chips; 2 eggs, slightly beaten

1 c. hot water
1 tsp. soda
1 stick oleo
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cocoa
1 1/4 c. sifted flour
pinch of salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. chocolate chips
2 eggs, slightly beaten

Directions

Mix dates and soda with hot water and set aside to cool. Cream oleo and sugar; add eggs and sifted dry ingredients.

Mix well, then stir in vanilla and date mixture.

Pour into greased and floured 9 x 9 x 2 1/2-inch pan or a 9 x 13-inch pan.

Sprinkle chocolate chips and nuts over top.

Bake for 40 minutes at 350°. Keeps well.

Can dress this up with topping of Cool Whip.
