- 3 cups cake flour, sifted
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 5 egg yolks
- 2 egg whites
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions

1Sift flour once, measure. Add baking powder and salt and sift three times.

2Cream shortening, gradually adding sugar. Cream thoroughly.

3Add egg yolks and unbeaten egg whites. Beat 1 minute. Combine flour mixture and milk alternately with creamed mixture.

4Beat very well. Add flavoring.

5Pour into greased springform pan with tube inset.

6Bake 1 hour and 20 minutes in moderate oven, 325 to 350 degrees.

7To remove cake, push down on tapered clamp and release spring rim.
