Oatmeal Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • 1/3 c. sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. salt
  • 1 qt. boiling water
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 8 c. flour (more or less) (1 c. could be stone ground wheat)

Directions

    Stir oatmeal, sugar, salt and boiling water.

    Let sit until lukewarm.

    Add yeast.

    Stir in flour and knead.

    Cover and allow to rise.

    Punch down and let rise again.

    Stir down and make into 3 loaves, 3 x 8 x 4-inch greased bread tins.

    Let rise until double in bulk.

    Bake in 400° oven for 20 minutes.
  10. 10
    Turn down oven to 325° and bake another 20 minutes.
