- 2 c. flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 4 Tbsp. shortening
- about 3/4 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Sift flour; measure; add baking powder and salt, sift again. Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender or 2 knives, blending it until the mixture resembles coarse corn meal.

2Stirring with fork, add enough milk to make soft dough, or until flour leaves sides of bowl and follows fork; continue until all flour disappears.

3Turn out on floured board; knead for about 1/2 minute.

4Pat out to 1 inch thick.

5Cut with biscuit cutter; place close together on lightly greased baking sheet. Brush tops lightly with melted butter or margarine.

6Bake in hot oven at 425° for 12 to 15 minutes.
